1. what is it?

There were no galaxies, stars, or planets for the first 150 million years after the big bang. Dark matter is dark you can hear it in the name and dark matter.

2. why do we need it?

Dark matter provides a solution to this problem because it is unaffected by radiation. Therefore, its density perturbations can grow first. The resulting gravitational potential acts as an attractive potential well for ordinary matter to collapse later, speeding up the structure formation process.  (ops used the wrong typing form hehe )

3. Facts about dark matter

Dark matter makes the universe expand without dark matter the universe will be quite little. There is also a downside if dark matter keeps expanding then the warmness will go to more places and it would lead to the big freeze that is we all freeze to death.

Thankfully we have dark energy which slows down dark matter but the universe will continue to expand just not as fast.
